I love this quote from J. Robert Clinton.
Within it I find three simple truths that — as leaders — I think we must allow to inform and bring shape to our work with others.
The first is that leadership is influence. It’s not demands or commands. Influence as leadership creates space for other people to dream, create, and lead.
The second truth is this that leadership is directional. It’s purposeful. Intentional. As leaders we must have some idea of where we are headed in order to lead others. Sometimes it might be as simple or minimal as knowing the next step , and trusting that God is leading us to the appropriate destination. As leaders must have some clarity as to where we are headed.
And the third truth is this — for leadership to matter, for leadership count, for leadership to be fruitful — we have to be influencing people in a God-given direction. Not our own direction, but God’s direction.
I think if we can focus on these three simple truths in our various leadership roles, we have the potential to be incredibly fruitful in the year ahead.
