Prayer is our lifeline with God. It has been of particular significance this past week for me…
Yesterday was the National Day of Prayer.
Last weekend it started to rain and flood here in Nashville and we’ve been praying in so many ways ever since.
Last Friday I posted some thoughts on our need as pastors and ministers to college students to be engaged in the consistent practice of spiritual disciplines like prayer and fasting, before attending the Pray40 prayer event hosted by the great folks of College Union, in preparation for the 40 Days of Prayer that will kick-off the 2010-2011 academic year in mid-August.
There was so much good stuff that came out of our day of prayer together last week, you can check out some of the teaching times here, but there was a specific idea that has stuck with me and I’m feeling compelled to act on.
How might it change our ministry, outreach, leadership, efforts, students, campus, faculty and staff, etc. if it were all constantly being lifted up in prayer?
I’m not just talking about prayer by the ministers on campus, or the students involved in our ministries (both incredibly important), but by an army of prayer warriors from all over! Local and global churches, full of people who LOVE to pray, must become our new comrades in ministry on campus.
Can you imagine having 40 different churches praying with us and our ministry efforts? Can you conceive of the unbridled power of God that might be unleashed on our campuses, or through our ministries, if we had prayer teams within churches praying around the clock for God’s movement on campus and students’ response? I get chills just thinking about the possibilities!
We must continue to find ways to better connect ministry on campus with the Church (something I’ve written a little about here) and I think this could be a great opportunity for all involved!
What do you think?
Have you ever attempted anything like this?
What are the benefits you see from a prayer initiative involving the local church for our campuses? Are there any downsides?
What other ideas do you have for seeing revival on our campuses?
I’d love to hear what you think!
