How often do we seek out an alternative perspective?
Well, if you’re ministry year is anything like mine… not very often.
Especially in the middle of an academic year…
It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day work and routine of ministry with students — or life in general — that taking the time to intentionally “pull back” and evaluate how things are going, and consider what changes might need to be made, can seem overwhelming… or at the very least, unrealistic… at this moment in time.
Assessment, we think, is better suited for the “downtime” that comes after students leave campus for their summer break — and we have a little more mental space for taking on such a big (and worthwhile) endeavor.
But what might we glean if, at this point in the spring term, we chose to intentionally pull back — just long enough to gain a different perspective?
How might it impact our remaining weeks of ministry this year?
How might it impact the trajectory of our summer? Or even start next fall?
How might it impact our student leader retention and/or recruitment efforts?
Watch this 30 second commercial and consider the different ways that “perspective” play in… and feel free to share any insights you have in the comment section below.
