7 a.m. Meetings

Mornings.

They come every day.

And there’s a lot to be said for mornings… but I think most of us would often prefer to say them a little later in the day.

Typically, I could be classified as a morning person… at least, that is, when my children cooperate throughout the course of the night.

Truth be told, I’m the kind of morning person that prefers to spend my mornings alone… in the quiet solitude of my home… knowing that my wife and children are still peacefully asleep. I might workout, or spend some time in God’s Word and in prayer — on my best days it’s both.

I also enjoy seeing my wife, and each of my kids, sleepily wander downstairs and getting to be the first person that greets them to the new day.

But on rare occasion I’m willing to break from this routine that I enjoy so much… for the sake of spending time with another.

And again, truth be told, there are not many people that I would actually be willing to make this sacrifice for. I simply value this time too much.

But this morning was one of those mornings. And my friend Brent is one of a few folks that I’m willing to make this sacrifice for.

He’s a friend.

He’s a fellow husband and father.

He’s a fellow pastor.

He’s a co-laborer in Christ.

He’s someone that God uses in my life in a variety of ways… and I’m hopeful that God uses me in his life too.

I’m incredibly thankful for my friend Brent — and the others like him — that I consider to be true brothers and sisters-in-Christ.

And I hope that you have someone(s) like this too.

Because we need them.

And they need us just as much.

And I’m quite certain that God works, in some very important ways, in this time and space…

Don’t you?

Do you have 7 a.m. (or even 6 a.m.) meetings? Who are they with? And why?

Who are the people that you’re willing to “break routine” for?

How have you seen God work in and through these relationships?

  1. Guy, great thoughts here Brother. i’m very much a morning person too. When i was in school from 2008 into 2010 I met with a friend. It was a good time to reconnect and talk about the church.
These kinds of meetings are awesome! And to do it in the mornings when its nice and peaceful is even better. God bless.
