How is technology impacting your ministry?
I’m really curious to know what you think… because I firmly believe that there are some significant ways our ministries can be impacted — for the positive — through the appropriate use of technology. We have the potential to:
- reach more students in non-threatening, or neutral, settings,
- share important ministry-related information in a context where many of our students spend too much of their time, and
- follow up with students we haven’t seen in a while
But I also believe there are some profound ways our ministry with college students can be hindered, and even hurt, through the improper use of technology. We have the potential to:
- replace face-to-face time with screen time… and make the assumption that it’s just as significant,
- limit our creativity to ONLY the things that can be done through technology, and
- rely to heavily on technology — and therefore miss some of the ways God is leading us and desiring for us to lead in our ministries
I know these lists are not exhaustive, but they’re a start…
So what does this look like for you?

We use technology in our ministry as a way to help students stay connected. Since it is so assumed for students, I am always looking for ways to use it to bring them closer to God and each other.
My latest use is our announcement time. I was really tired of our announcements, and it was really boring. What did I try? Youtube video announcements. We gave students some of our announcements and told them to make a video and upload it to our youtube page. We show it on our Wed night big meeting.
They’ve had fun with it and love trying to get creative. I’ve seen it liven up our nights, even though the boundary is getting pushed sometimes. Announcements are more engaging now! Check out our page http://www.youtube.com/katsforchrist
