My post is going up a little later than normal today… but I’ve got a good reason for that… a very good one!
I was out on the golf course this morning, at the crack of dawn, enjoying a free round of golf. Yep, that’s right, I said FREE!
There’s a course just south of Nashville that has ‘Minister Mondays’ which essentially means that ministers of every kind are granted as much FREE golf as we want EVERY Monday. I’m not kidding.
Most ministers have Mondays off… or, at least they use to. Since, as a campus minister, I do not have Mondays off I was up and on the course before it was even open. I considered this an added blessing as there’s nothing quite like playing golf on an empty course!
As I roamed the quiet fairways, the sun just beginning to peak through the trees, I got to wondering about this great blessing…
- Why does this course offer this gift to those of us in ministry?
- Are there others out there that ‘honor’ ministers in this way?
- Was there a day and a time when this was more common practice?
- Have some who bear the title of minister or pastor, and have ‘fallen from grace’, served to sour this kind of outpouring towards the rest?
- Should ministers even be honored in this way?
I would imagine our ideas about this kind of practice might differ widely… so I”m curious to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for sharing and adding to the conversation!
Grace and peace.
