The primary reason that college students leave their faith in college is their personal desire for sexual freedom and its incompatibility with religious morality. 

Approximately 65% of all college students have had sex.

25% of college women’s first encounter with sex was unwanted or forced.

Less than 30% of college students have had a healthy conversation with their parents about the “birds and the bees”

G. K. Chesterton once said, “The guy knocking on the brothel door is knocking for God”

We have a cultural obsession with sex on the college campus that creates unreal and distorted views.

The biblical explanation of sex is simple yet gloriously complex. Sex is not just physical; it is attached to the soul.

Love first leads to Purity, while Lust first leads to Promiscuity.

College relationships that start from desperation and infatuation inevitably leads to isolation; once students isolate themselves from other students, it’s nearly impossible to refrain from promiscuity because they become consumed with each other.

This form of enmeshed love is merely self-serving martyrdom of co-dependency, while true love is the sacrificial selflessness Jesus represented on the cross.

The primary reason sexual struggles are so strong is oftentimes because our love for God is so weak. Jesus satisfies more than the ecstasy of casual sex.

Casual sex is an insufficient idol and substitute savior for many collegians who pursue attention and approval under the misconception that sex is merely physical.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!”

No matter what students have done sexually, Christ relentlessly loves and abundantly provides redemption. Christ offers hope for everyone; He is always in the business of taking our disappointments, regrets, and hardships to fashion something beautiful.

How can we help students realize that sexual freedom isn’t a worthy reason to leave their faith?
