Words are powerful.
At times we wield this power well, as we use our words thoughtfully and intentionally to encourage, love, and support others.
Sometimes we forget this truth… and become flippant, and unintentional, with our words.
In so doing, we can come across as being unconcerned with what we are communicating, and can fail to recognize that we have the power to hurt others by the words we choose.
And there are other times when we are possibly too intentional with our words… because we are so intent on communicating just the right thing.
We can spend hours working through the precise wording of a phrase, because we want it to succinctly and accurately communicate everything we want to say, in exactly the right way.
This being true, tell me what you think about these two widely used phrases in describing our college ministry communities:
A Student-Centered Christian Community
and
A Christ-Centered Student Community
Do these two phrases communicate the same message? If not, what do you think the difference is between the two?
What message does your ministry communicate to students, student leaders, parents and supporters? Is it accurate?
I’d love to hear what you think!
Please take a moment to share your thoughts in the comment section and check back tomorrow for part two.
