The Top 25 Posts of 2011 [1-5]

What an incredible year it has been here at Faith ON Campus!

SO many great conversations have been started… impacting ministers, ministries, ministry, students, campuses… and ultimately, the world!

Thanks for your part in all of this!

Over the past week we have been counting down the Top 25 Posts of 2011 here at Faith ON Campus… and it has all led up to this!

The top 5 most viewed posts of 2011 at Faith ON Campus are:

5. Regardless of Orientation, Seek Holiness | Nathan Albert

Here’s a bold claim: I do not think that “Gay Christian” is an oxymoron. I do, however, think there are other adjectives being put before Christian that create an oxymoronic term. “Greedy Christian,” “Judgmental Christian,” “Hateful Christian,” “Violent Christian,” Graceless Christian” are a few that come to mind. But not “Gay Christian.” Lately, I have been questioning if putting any adjective before the word Christian is such a good idea. Read more…

4. The Problem Isn’t Porn: Finding A Frame Beyond Shame | J.D. Walt

It’s 1am. My roommate is long asleep. I’ve got to finish this paper for my 8am tomorrow, actually today. I don’t know what I would do without Wikipedia. Really I wish I had used that www.writemypaper.net site everyone talks about. I’m really tired. I check my Facebook, again. This time one of those sidebar ads catches my glance. It’s a woman. She’s clothed but bending over in some kind of salacious yoga pose. It’s like she’s saying, “Let’s workout. Come over to my place.” I know better than to click on that. I know where it leads. I turn back to my paper. I’m stuck at page 3 of 5. I hate this. Read more…

3. The Top 10 Issues College Students Face

There’s so much that makes up the college experience… so many opportunities, so many potential pitfalls. How well do we assist students in navigating the waters of the college years? Maybe before we can accurately answer this question we must first ask, “what are the big issues that our students are dealing with?” If we’ve not taken the time to answer this question than we must ask ourselves, “how relevant is our ministry?” Read more…

2. Sex’s Unexpected Consequences: Don’t Start What You Can’t Finish | Shellie R. Warren

On January 9, just a few days from now, it will be four years since I’ve had sexual intercourse. Since I’ve committed fornication. Since I’ve engaged in “pornea”, which is the Greek word for fornication. Hmph. When you put sex with someone whose not your spouse that way, when you realize that it’s just a “hop, skip and lay down” away from the word, “pornography”, it really does take all of the “fantasized romance” out of the experience, doesn’t it? 1. Is Sex Before Marriage Really A Sin?

Does that sound like a loaded question to you? Loaded or not, this is a question that more and more young believers are asking — and in all seriousness. There seems to be a growing belief among some Christians that sex BEFORE marriage is NOT a sin. They can quote to you all of the biblical passages that talk about adultery, and give there rational for why they believe… Read more…

Wow! 4 of the top 5 posts dealt directly with the issues of SEX, sexuality and faith! And the 5th indirectly mentions it as one of the Top 10 issues college students deal with (#6 on addictive and destructive behaviors)… Guess I know what I’ll be spending a bit more of my focus on in 2012.

Thanks again , to one and all who have contributed to the conversations here at Faith ON Campus, and made this such a fruitful year of thinking, being and doing in the field of college ministry!

May God richly bless you during this Christmas season!

This is my last post of the year… so if you’re in search of some more ‘food for thought’ over the holidays, you can check out the rest of the Top 25 or you can peruse the archives at the bottom of every page — I’m sure there must be a few posts you missed along the way this year!

I’ll be back some time after the first of the year with new content for conversations, as well as to continue many of the great conversations that have taken place in 2011. I hope you’ll come back and join in!

Also, the Sex & the Soul blogathon will be happening at the end of January… and you won’t want to miss that! As you have the chance, please help spread the word about this free, online conference by rsvp-ing at the Facebook event page and sharing it with your colleagues that may be interested in having conversations about the intersection of sex, sexuality and faith on campus!

Merry Christmas!! See you in 2012!
