Top Posts for December 2011

compliments of: designofsignage.com

December was kind of quiet month (for me) with about half as many original posts as normal… but it still proved to be a high-traffic month for visitors to Faith ON Campus (I’m betting it had something to do with the Year-End Countdowns!).

With all of the end-of-semester activities, and preparations for the Christmas holiday, you may have missed something!

SO…

here are the Top 10 posts for the month of December!

10. A Campus Ministry Final Exam | REpost

It’s exam time on campus…

And I guess it only makes sense that at the end of the semester we would put ourselves through a “final exam” of sorts… right?

With all that has happened and hasn’t happened, with all of the feelings of relief, release, regret, ready-to-be-done-ness that we feel at the end of the term… it is important for us to consider how we might make these final couple of weeks before the Christmas holiday as fruitful as possible. 9. What Kind of Christian Are You?

Having conversations about faith and commitment can be extremely challenging. Especially in a culture that is obsessed with tolerance, political correctness and pointing out the “critical” and “judgmental” nature of Christians and Christianity. Read more!

8. Ideas for December

By the time December rolls around, those of us who work with college students are likely recognizing a couple of different things:

1. Students are done — over the Thanksgiving holiday they had a foretaste of their much larger Christmas break to come and they are just ready to be there, and

2. We’re not too far behind them — we’re tired from a semester of ministry and are likely ready to have a little break from students, campus and our regular routines for a little while. Read more!

7. On Helping College Students Go Home

As students near the end of another term… and some, graduation… many will make their way towards the home of their parents.

And although they return to a place that is familiar, to people who love them (we hope), we know that they head back different — changed — from who they were the last time they were there.

Regardless of whether they’re first semester freshmen, or graduating seniors, once students have been out on their own — and tasted many of the new-found adult freedoms — it can be hard to go back under the roof — and authority — of their parents. Read more!

6. The Top 10 Issues College Students Face

There’s so much that makes up the college experience… so many opportunities, so many potential pitfalls.

How well do we assist students in navigating the waters of the college years?

Maybe before we can accurately answer this question we must first ask, “what are the big issues that our students are dealing with?”  If we’ve not taken the time to answer this question than we must ask ourselves, “how relevant is our ministry?” Read more!

4. Outreach That You Will Actually Do: Sharing Jesus Using Gospel Appointments (Part 2) | Paul Worcester

We try and set up a gospel appointment with everyone who comes to our large group meeting, small groups and socials. The fact that they are there shows they are already interested in spiritual things. That phrase “I can tell you more about what our group is about” is great because our groups is all about the gospel! Training our students and staff to set up meetings with all visitors (whether we know if they are a believer or not) has made us a much more “sticky” ministry. 3. Is Sex Before Marriage Really A Sin?

Does that sound like a loaded question to you?

Loaded or not, this is a question that more and more young believers are asking — and in all seriousness.

There seems to be a growing belief among some Christians that sex BEFORE marriage is NOT a sin. Read more!

2. Sex’s Unexpected Consequences: Don’t Start What You Can’t Finish | Shellie R. Warren

On January 9, just a few days from now, it will be four years since I’ve had sexual intercourse. Since I’ve committed fornication. Since I’ve engaged in “pornea”, which is the Greek word for fornication. Hmph. When you put sex with someone whose not your spouse that way, when you realize that it’s just a “hop, skip and lay down” away from the word, “pornography”, it really does take all of the “fantasized romance” out of the experience, doesn’t it? Read more!

1. Outreach That You Will Actually Do: Sharing Jesus Using Gospel Appointments (Part I) | Paul Worcester

I want to share with you the most liberating evangelistic tool I have ever found. It is also the most effective method of person evangelism I have seen. This semester our ministry of sixty students has seen over 48 people accept Jesus as Savior and Lord! Most of these were from what we call “gospel appointments.” Read more!

And there you have it!

That should close the books on 2011! Tomorrow we’ll start in on a new year — with some new areas of  focus!
